Work Directly Leading to the Development of the Gimbal Fan Concept During the period 1965 to 1967, Dr. Bertelsen began to investigate the use of shrouded fans to allow more controllability for his craft. Up until then, his previous vehicles could would not behave fully as the pilot wanted, and the lack of control prevented him from attempting to sell them. Starting in April of 1965, Dr. Bertelsen developed three models, the A-10, A-11, and A-12, each of which brought him one step closer true controllability. This work led over time to the Gimbal Fan he utilized with his A-13 craft.
